Neil McGarrigle
TRAINEE AT LONDON SOUTHBANK UNIVERSITY
Background
I believe deeply in the transformative potential of counselling to heal and empower people. Through my integrative approach, drawing primarily on person-centred and psychodynamic theories, I aim to create a safe, non-judgmental environment where you can explore your experiences and feelings in your own time and space.
My work is grounded in the understanding that we all have an innate capacity for growth and healing. Sometimes life's challenges- whether grief, relationship difficulties, anxiety, or depression- can leave us feeling disconnected from ourselves and withdrawn from others. Together, we can work to understand these patterns and find new ways forward that feel authentic to you.
It is often helpful to explore how our past experiences shape our present relationships and sense of self. This might involve examining family dynamics, processing loss, or understanding how trauma continues to affect us. I believe that genuine self-awareness, while sometimes uncomfortable, opens the door to meaningful change.
My professional background includes extensive work with homeless populations and co-founding a refugee charity, experiences that have deepened my understanding of resilience, trauma, and the human capacity to heal even in difficult circumstances. I also have extensive life experience from having worked in the media and construction in the past, which ensures that my frame of reference is not solely from an academic background.
Most importantly, my approach is collaborative. You are the expert on your own life, and my role is to walk alongside you as you discover your own insights and solutions. I may make some connections or encourage you to reflect on some experiences, but the conclusions can only be drawn by you, and it is important to me that I act to facilitate that and never dictate the direction or focus of our sessions.
