Laura Claxton

BODY BASED COUNSELLOR

Approach and background

Laura brings a calm, intuitive presence to her work and values creating a space where people feel genuinely safe, seen, and at ease.

When understanding isn’t enough, we gently include the body in the process.

Sometimes you can understand your patterns clearly, yet still feel stuck. Alongside talking, we slow things down and begin to notice what is happening in your body - your breath, areas of tension, or shifts that occur when something feels stressful or overwhelming. There is no pressure to 'get it right'.

The focus is simply on curiosity, awareness, and allowing your body to be part of the process.

Over time, this can help your mind and body to feel safer and more settled.

Sessions are calm, respectful, and paced to suit you. The aim is to support a deeper sense of regulation, connection, and lasting change in how you experience yourself day to day.

Training, qualifications, and experience

Laura is a qualified counsellor with a Psychology degree from the UK and a Master of Counselling from the University of Notre Dame in Perth. She has membership with the International Society of Psychotherapy and Counselling.

She has worked with people across many stages of life, including adults up to 87 years old. Her experience includes supporting clients through grief and loss, anxiety and depression, domestic violence, and sexual abuse.

Her approach blends Mindfulness, Narrative Therapy, and CBT, supporting clients to reconnect with both mind and body and to gently loosen the grip of unhelpful stories or patterns. She believes meaningful change happens through understanding, curiosity, and kindness toward oneself.

Shaped by her general work and life experiences including working in hospitals, universities, administration, and even a tennis coach, Laura offers a rich tapestry of life chapters that inform her counselling practice. Outside her work, she enjoys time in nature, books, music, and travel.
