Katie Green
TRAINEE AT NEW SCHOOL OF PSYCHOTHERAPY AND COUNSELLING
Background
I have lived in London for most of my life and have a background in the arts, initially training as a visual artist before becoming a curator. For the past 16 years I have worked professionally as a curator in museums and galleries, where I have had the privilege of working closely with artists who often explore their inner experiences and emotional worlds through their work.
My interest in autism and neurodivergence was an important inspiration for my decision to train as a psychologist and psychotherapist. I am particularly interested in how sensory and perceptual differences shape the ways in which we experience and make sense of the world.
My therapeutic practice draws on my previous career in the visual arts and my experience volunteering in community mental health, supporting people living with severe and enduring mental health conditions.
My phenomenological-existential training informs an empathetic and non-judgemental approach to counselling. I seek to understand each client’s individual experience from their own perspective, taking into account their unique worldview, circumstances and life experiences.
Training goals
I began my training journey in 2022 with a Foundation in Psychotherapy, Counselling & Coaching, followed by a Master’s degree in Psychology. I am currently completing a professional doctorate in Counselling Psychology and Psychotherapy.
I chose this training route because I hope to work with a wide range of people, including those who may not otherwise have access to private psychotherapy. My research interests focus on the lived experiences of autistic adults, particularly how receiving a clinical diagnosis can shape our understanding of ourselves and our experiences.
Through my clinical work, I hope to build experience working with a diverse range of clients and develop a therapeutic practice that is inclusive and sensitive to individual differences.
Membership
I am a UKCP registered Trainee Psychotherapist and a graduate member of the British Psychological Society (GMBPsS).
