Edward Reed

TRAINEE AT  METANOIA INSTITUTE

Background

I’m Edward. I moved a lot when I was younger but have now been settled in Brixton for the last 28 Years. I’ve worked for the last 20 in the Foreign Commonwealth & Development office.

Having worked on a macro scale with policy and governments, I’m excited to be working on a much more human and individual scale. I decided to become a psychotherapist having volunteered for a charity working with profoundly suicidal people.

The opportunity to enter a deeply relational and therapeutic relationship to help people find fulfillment and acceptance is what drives me. The moment of deep connection, healing, and learning.

I’ve lived in many places including Africa and have worked all over the world‘ Living and working with people from many different backgrounds deepened my curiosity about how each of us makes sense of the world, and how our relationships, culture and experiences shape who we become. It also taught me the value of listening carefully, remaining open to perspectives different from my own, and resisting easy assumptions about another person’s life

I’m early in my psychotherapeutic journey and thrilled to be starting it here in my local community.

Training goals

I am studying an MSc in Integrative Psychotherapy at Metanoia. I’m not yet sure who or which groups I’d like to work with but am interested in discovering a wide range of areas that include trauma, sexuality and relationships and a focus on the challenges of masculinity in the current social environment and working with its impact on both men and women.

For me, therapy is not about giving advice or trying to “fix” you. It is about offering warmth, curiosity, and honest reflection, so that difficult feelings and familiar patterns can be approached with compassion rather than judgement. You may be experiencing anxiety, low mood, loss, relationship difficulties, questions of identity or belonging, or simply a sense of feeling stuck. Whatever brings you, we can explore it together at a pace that feels right for you.

I’m looking to learn and find and build connections and be the best possible therapist I can. This will be by developing my own integrative approach which will be relational and drawing upon attachment theory and trauma informed work as foundations.

Membership

I am a registered student member of the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP).
