Christopher White

PSYCHOTHERAPEUTIC COUNSELLOR

Approach and background

My approach has a humanistic base as I always start with you the client, giving you unconditional positive regard and allowing you to lead the therapy, bringing what you want each time to the session. I work with a pluralistic toolkit based on an understanding of neurodiversity, the social environment, and past experiences from childhood. I emphasise working in the present, but will revisit the past when it is relevant to the work we are undertaking.

I am warm and open-minded and endeavour to bring a creative approach to therapy, helping clients to join the dots between parts of themselves and use techniques learned in moderating groups to help people understand themselves better. I am culturally sensitive and have extensive knowledge of European and Latin American cultures.

I originate from the North West but moved to the South when I was eight. I have made London my home for over 30 years, living just between Clapham North and Brixton. I love the area for its diversity and energy. I believe in the importance of locality, and for this reason, I work for the Brixton branch of Lambeth and Southwark Mind, promoting awareness of its various services.

Before I became a therapist, I trained in psychology, then used this to work in human understanding and research for the commercial sector. I then trained as a psychotherapist at T.A. East in London, which pays particular attention to the social environment we live in and its relation to mental health.
