Adrianna Pearce

Humanistic Counsellor

Approach and background

Hi, I’m Adrianna.
Seeking therapy can come with noisy bedfellows: anticipation, expectation, nerves (maybe some dread). We also seek therapy with hope, that it will help us feel better, that it will fix or heal what might seem broken.
My first aim when we meet is for you to feel understood, supported and welcomed. Initially, we will explore your reasons for seeking therapy, how we might work together and what a successful therapy outcome might look like for you.
I value curiosity, collaboration and creativity: you will find all three embedded in my approach, along with a gentle challenge from time to time. During our sessions, we might explore your past, or what happened in your week, or how you’re doing right in the present moment.
We do this because it gives you opportunities to make connections between the challenges you are experiencing and who you are, what you feel or think, and the actions you take. Out of this awareness often follows possibilities for growth, healing and change.
Some of my areas of interest include: anxiety, early relational trauma and challenges with self-esteem/self-worth. Originally from Vermont, I am also interested in multicultural identity and immigrant experiences.
In addition to my counselling work, I am a qualified, experienced yoga and Pilates teacher. I apply a holistic understanding of mind, body, movement and health into my therapeutic approach.

Training, qualifications, and experience

I am a fully qualified humanistic counsellor and have worked in the private sector, in community mental health care clinics and in the NHS. I am registered with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and adhere to their code of ethics.
Ethical and non-discriminatory practice is central to my approach: I am a neuro-affirmative and LGBTQ+ affirmative therapist. I have worked with a range of emotional and relational experiences, including: anxiety, early childhood trauma, ADHD, depression, domestic violence, disordered eating, grief and loss, and significant career/life transitions.
Presently, I am in my final year of study for a masters in humanistic psychotherapy. I am also currently undertaking additional training within the NHS in cognitive analytic therapy (CAT), which is designed to support individuals with complex or enduring mental health care needs.
Both my counselling diploma and my masters are with the Metanoia Institute, which is regarded as one of the leading counselling and psychotherapy training institutions in the UK.
